MIAMI.- The majority leader in the U.S. Senate, Democrat Harry Reid, said that he expects that in September will begin the debate in Congress for immigration reform that legalizes some 12 million immigrants.

"I expect to achieve it before September, and I feel extremely confident that we can pass it", said the senator of Nevada in an interview transmitted by Univisión.

Reid said that he has spoken with the former republican presidential candidate John McCain, who has expressed to him his support to obtain the necessary republican votes for the reform. "We are 59 democrats and we need 60 votes, then we are going to need a little help and we are going to need them (the republicans)", expressed the leader of the Senate.

Reid is counting on every single Democrat Senator to vote for amnesty then? Oh, that's right, it isn't amnesty, it's immigration reform.

Does he think by September American workers are going to be employed again instead of losing jobs right and left?

Reid vulnerable in 2010, poll shows

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is not popular in his home state as he heads into his next re-election battle, according to a new poll commissioned by a conservative political action group.

Reid was viewed favorably by 47 percent and unfavorably by 47 percent of Nevadans surveyed by the Salt Lake City-based polling firm NSON Opinion Research for the Legacy PAC, a California-based activist group that hopes to target Reid for defeat in 2010.

Legacy commissioned the poll to test the waters and determine whether it would be worth the group’s while to go after Reid, whose scalp Republicans would dearly love to claim as a trophy. The answer to that question is a resounding yes, said one of the political-action committee’s founders, Seattle-based operative Floyd Brown.

....well that gives us about 6 months to continue sending to our elected officials the dismall jobs reports ...and ask them why on earth they'd consider granting amnesty to ANY illegal aliens..when Americans are losing jobs by the hundreds of thousands...including 1.1 million in Nov/Dec. of 2008 alone.

With the exception of Byrd, Dorgan, and McCaskill, they probably will.

Unfortunately, there are probably more Republicans that will support the amnesty than Democrats who will oppose it. Just a few of the Rep. off the top of my head: Lindsay Graham, John McCain, Arlen Specter, Orrin Hatch, Richard Lugar, and Mel Martinez. Furthermore, I'm sure there are other Senate Republicans that will support the 'right' amnesty bill.

I still say our best chance at beating a future amnesty will come on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. IMO, the U.S. Senate is a lost cause. Additionally, let's not forget the 'Ace' in the hole we're currently holding. Yep, that would be our floundering economy.

A spokesman for Reid responded to the poll by saying Reid was not concerned with public opinion but rather was focused on doing his job in Washington for his constituents, who would judge him by his accomplishments.
