Reid's Push on Dream Act has Little Republican Support

Reid’s Push on Immigration Bill Finds Little Republican Support

    By Laura Litvan - Nov 30, 2010

A drive by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to retool U.S. immigration policy this year is running into resistance from Republicans essential for passage.

Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said earlier this month he will put before the Senate a stand-alone measure permitting legal status for some undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

The legislation’s advocates, including Washington- based America’s Voice, say it will likely need the support of a half-dozen Republican senators to pass during the lame-duck session.

Many targeted for support -- including retiring Republicans George Voinovich of Ohio and George LeMieux of Florida -- say they won’t go along.

“Granting legal status should only be done as part of comprehensive reform to ensure that we finally address our broken immigration system,â€

[quote]Senator Robert Bennett of Utah, who lost a re-election bid earlier this year, is the only Republican besides Lugar who has said he’ll support the measure as a stand-alone bill. Some others who voted for it in the past, including Orrin Hatch of Utah and Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas, say they won’t back it now.

“Senator Hutchison cannot support the DREAM Act legislation in its present form because it is too broad and not limited enough,â€

Senator Ben Nelson, a Nebraska Democrat, has said he would vote with most Republicans to block the measure, and a handful of other Democrats may join him.
Woo hoo, way to go Sen Ben Nelson D-NE! Thank-you!

Hmm.....wonder why Sen Bob Bennet of Utah lost his re-election bid this year?.....thinking.....thinking some more.... Oh, wait, could it possibly have anything to do with his pro-open borders, pro-amnesty votes in Congress.......

Are you other pro-Dream Amnesty senators up for re-election in 2012 watching closely?

Being a Republican delegate from Utah I can tell you that Bob Bennett is the number one weasel of all time. He is in the pocket of big business and always has been. He will vote for amnesty every time and yesterday he voted in support of earmarks. THIS IS WHY HE IS GOING HOME IN JANUARY!
Utahns have had enough of this dolt who has no brains, no guts, and his head and butt are interchangeable. If you have someone like him in your state, send them a message like we did with amnesty Bob.

When I called Snowe's office today, I got the "hasn't released a statement yet" line. This could have been one of those I couldn't get through to DC office, so called local office. Maybe the aide at local office didn't have updated statement yet.....?

Good job Dansk9 and other sane Utah citizens, getting rid of Sen Amnesty Bennett. Good riddance!
