Apparently, there’s at least one union that isn’t immediately greeted with a derisive snort and references to Lenin by Georgia Republicans — the union representing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

U.S. Rep. John Barrow (D-Georgia) tomorrow will unveil his counter-offer to the Senate bill wending its way through Congress. At his side will be Chris Crane, head of the ICE union, who is on record opposing any kind of immigration bill. Last month, a lawsuit filed by Crane challenging an administration directive for ICE officers to restrict immigration arrests to the most serious lawbreakers was temporarily upheld by a federal judge. “The court finds that DHS does not have discretion to refuse to initiate removal proceedings,” wrote Judge Reed O’Connor of the US Court of the Northern District of Texas.

WASHINGTON – Tomorrow, May 23, 2013, U.S. Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) will hold a press conference to discuss legislation he is introducing to address the issue of illegal immigration. Congressman Barrow will be joined by Chris Crane, President of the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Council, to discuss the bill that he will introduce Thursday morning.

The legislation has three key components of enforcement that need to be implemented before any substantial immigration reform, including:

• Worksite Enforcement that Works
• Crime Prevention and Penalties
• Gaining Operational Control of America’s Land Borders
