Re: Rep. King: Torpedo DREAM Act to Avoid Flood of Illegals

PLEASE be informed!! But if you are simply against immigration period, then skip this.

I just wonder how many of you have actually read this legislation? I assume that you would have full knowledge of a bill before you would speak to it, correct?

Do you know just HOW these people would go about sponsoring others into the country? well, according the law, they would spend 6 years on a sort of 'citizenship probation', then another 6 years mandatory time to become a legal citizen, then after passing all the criteria and becoming a citizen, they have the same rights as anyone else, and then yes, they could sponsor others.
The numbers you are throwing out, 300+ per person, are just wrong. There are limitations on how many immigrants one person can sponsor - again KNOW the FACTS.

So then, other than a flat no immigration rule, can anyone give me good reason, based on fact, why this shouldn't pass? Given its many benefits?

    - these people will pay taxes
    - these people will likely stay here undocumented anyway and we will find and deport less than 15%
    - read the legislation and you will find more....

    Erin727 - Please be informed!

Ten Things You Need to know about S. 3827, The Dream Act

    1. The DREAM Act Is NOT Limited to Children, And It Will Be Funded On the Backs Of Hard Working, Law-Abiding Americans

Proponents of the DREAM Act frequently claim the bill offers relief only to illegal alien “kids.â€

Erin 727 - We are not "simply against immigration period", we are simply against ILLEGAL immigration period. Open Borders advocates love to try to confuse the two.

This is what needs to change, and we will not stop until it does.

Erin727 which legislation are you referring to. The Dream Act is constantly changing and has many versions. We do try to stay informed, but with all the backroom deals that seems to be the new norm in D.C. this is a hard feat. If you go to the Dreamers blogs they do not even know what exactly it will end up entailing. The one constant in all of the versions however seems to be the retroactive issue.

As a California parent with children in college I can give you several reasons why this bill should not pass Erin.

Classes are impacted. Each student has to literally fight to get the classes needed for their majors.

This competition for a seat in a needed class is not based on gpa. If students are not able to get into the classes they need they are forced to take other classes not needed to keep their units for that semester up. For financial aid they have to be carrying a certain amount of units. To live in the dorms they must be carrying a certain amount of units.
Meanwhile if they cannot get their prerequistes they have to extend their years in college, which pushes the cost of their degrees up.

Out of 400 students in pre-nursing in their University only 24 are accepted into the nursing program.

I have seen first hand the pressure and fustration of American students competing with illegal students for their education. I am talking about students on the Dean's List. A students. I have heard their fears and anger as tuition rises, classes disappear and the threat of it getting worse as more and more illegal aliens being allowed to fill the much needed seats in classes.

This Dream Act is a nightmare and is tearing our kids apart. We did not raise racist. They care about everyone of their fellow students. They do not ask each other whether they are legal or illegal, and they shouldn't have to.

No Erin you are the one that is not imformed, not seeing the whole picture of what the Dream Act would mean to our American born citizens.

Yeah…we know they will continue to stay and break our laws. It’s simply in their nature to do this. Doesn't mean we have to give them anything!

We do not need to find anybody to deport. In most cases, we simply need to enforce the laws already on the books and many of these illegal invaders will self-deport. Stop giving them accommodations and stop pandering to illegal invaders. Illegal invaders need to be made to feel unwelcomed in this country because the vast majority of Americans do not want them here.

Now, Instead of trying to pass a NIGHTMARE ACT, our government should be finding ways to enforce our laws and to pass legislation that comes down hard on illegal invaders instead of rewarding them.
