It looks like illegals are still allowed to raid the Treasury though child tax credits. Why hasn't Congress fixed this? If they aren't supposed to be here working, why are they getting big refunds?

Rep. Luke Messer said Wednesday that eliminating the child tax credit loophole that allowed illegal immigrants to benefit from the policy is part of how Mexico will pay for border security.

“It’s about $30 billion over the next decade. It is part of making sure that Mexico helps pay for security on the Southern border,” Mr. Messer, Indiana Republican, said on Fox News.

He also said Democrats threatening to withhold funding for the border wall are risking protections for recipients of DACA — Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals — those who arrived in the U.S. illegally as children.

“The president has been clear, no wall, no DACA. So I think you’ll see the wall,” Mr. Messer said.

Lawmakers have until March 5 to put protections in place for DACA, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he will have a vote on the floor by the Feb. 8 spending deadline.

Mr. Messer is running for Senate in Indiana, challenging incumbent Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly. Mr. Messer has faced questions of residency since his family lives in McClean, Virginia, but his campaign says he co-owns his mother’s home back in his native state.
