Iowa firm pulls 450 workers from slaughterhouse

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- A staffing firm that provides more than half the work force at a kosher slaughterhouse in Iowa has pulled out, taking with it about 450 employees.

Regional Manager Jamie Cord said Friday that Jacobson Staffing had suspended relations this week with the Agriprocessors plant in Postville. The company told its 450 workers not to report to their jobs. Cord says that leaves the plant with about 250 workers.

Des Moines-based Jacobson has been serving as the plant's human resources department since a May 12 immigration raid that led to the arrest of 389 people.

Cord wouldn't say why his company pulled out.
