    More Navarrette Nonsense...Illegals NOT self-deporting

I think Mr. Navarrette is in denial. I especially appreciate the jab regarding our teens and 20 year olds. I would love to know the ratio of American kids in gangs to latinos. Navarette needs to take off his bias, racist latino tinted glasses and see what is really happening.

Commentary: Fantasy Christmas gift: Self-deporting immigrants

    By Ruben Navarrette Jr.
    Special to CNN

SAN DIEGO, California (CNN) -- For Christmas, nearly a dozen readers sent me the same gift, an article about goings on in the Southwest: "Illegal immigrants packing up and leaving Arizona."

According to the article, illegal immigrants are fleeing the Grand Canyon State because of an "oppressive environment" and the fear that the undocumented won't be able to find work after this week, when a tough employer-sanctions law takes effect. It's a restrictionist dream come true. Many of those who say they've had a bellyful of illegal immigration claim that, if we dried up the jobs, illegal immigrants would simply "self-deport."

I've written that this is the stupidest idea I've ever heard, which explains why readers couldn't wait to forward an article that would seem to prove me wrong.

As someone who is paid to express opinions on a daily -- sometimes hourly -- basis, I don't mind being wrong.

Still, I don't think I'm wrong about this. No one knows for sure what's going on in Arizona. Every Christmas, many illegal immigrants head home to reacquaint themselves with mama's cooking and play Santa Claus by showering relatives with gifts. As the article acknowledges, this tradition could account for some of the exodus. So could the slowing economy, and the fact that -- according to the article -- many people are migrating to other states. Adios Arizona; Hola Colorado, Nebraska, or Minnesota.

It's wishful thinking to think that the solution to our immigration woes is to simply expect the condemned to carry out their own executions. It's more complicated.

On a recent trip to Phoenix, Arizona, I spoke to a couple of illegal immigrants who told me that, indeed, some of their friends were leaving the state but others were staying. If you're young and single, you might try your luck elsewhere, they said. But those who have families and roots would stay put no matter what, they said. Besides, what do they have to go home to -- earning $6 a day in some Mexican town, assuming there is even a job to be had there?

Maybe some illegal immigrants are leaving Arizona for Mexico. If so, I'm glad to hear it. But that's a personal prerogative. Let's not mistake it for public policy.

Here's a policy: If people are in the country illegally, they should be deported. I wrote that several months ago when I applauded the removal of Elvira Arrellano, an illegal immigrant who taunted U.S. authorities before being deported to Mexico. The forcible removal of those who break immigration laws is the right of any sovereign nation, and it's a job that shouldn't be outsourced.

For the record, I'm glad that Arizona is bearing down on employers. It's nice to see government pick on someone its own size for a change. Besides, I can't wait to see what happens when Arizonans realize that the same folks who built all those resorts, restaurants, and houses are no longer around to maintain them.

Of course, there is always the chance that Americans -- especially those in their teens and 20s -- will step in and fill the void by leaving their air-conditioned homes, video games, and $3 coffees and going to work in 110-degree weather.

But whom are we kidding? That's just more wishful thinking.

Now this agenda driven dolt insults all Americans. Yesterday he blathered on, insulting American-Germans with his complete ignorance and his racially/ethnically biased, agenda driven, PC revision of American-German history..Now he denigrates all American workers

Navarette ignored the statistics coming from Arizona public schools about the drop in enrollments and the sudden disappearance of many of its Latino students. School enrollment statistics is the BEST INDEX of illegals leaving. Navarette, you are an idiot.

This jerk is playing deep defense. Apparently he did not get copies of the news about the illegals leaving GA and OK too!

Navarette stereotypes Americans as being too lazy and soft to "work in 110 degree heat.
Some of the "soft" Americans I know are serving in the armed forces in Iraq or in Ecuador in the Peace Corp..
What an insult Navarrette is to those Americans..in their teens and 20's.

    This part surprised me though,

I was so angry at what he said about our young people that I shot him off this letter.

    Mr. Navarrette:

I just finished reading your article titled "Commentary: Fantasy Christmas gift: self-deporting immigrants" First of all, I take exception to the title. Most Americans are not concerned if LEGAL immigrants are self-deporting. It's the ILLEGAL immigrants we are concerned with.

I'm sure we could argue all day long about whether illegal aliens are actually leaving the U.S. because of recent crackdowns and new laws. But, by now, I realize that pro-illegal immigrant supporters can not be reasoned with. So, I will not waste our time.

BUT, I do have a problem with your comments made toward America's youth. Below are the exact words from your article concerning young Americans.

Of course, there is always the chance that Americans -- especially those in their teens and 20s -- will step in and fill the void by leaving their air-conditioned homes, video games, and $3 coffees and going to work in 110-degree weather.

But whom are we kidding? That's just more wishful thinking.

Wow. That's below the belt Ruben. And, what's more, it is more proof that when it comes to a logical argument with a pro-immigrant, when they have nothing meaningful left to say, they get personal.

My son is 20 years old. He attends a community college part-time and works part-time as a waiter. Yes, he does play video games in his spare time and we do have an air conditioned house.

My husband has a PhD and earns a good salary. The reason I tell you this is because we could give my son a free ride, like your article implies. But, we are trying to teach him the value of an education and hard work. That is what we teach our children in America. No, I don't believe he will ever do work in 110-degree weather, but that doesn't make him a slacker. And, he doesn't drink $3 coffee. He doesn't even like coffee.

My son has 3 friends who have entered the military. One is 18, the others 20. They like to play video games also, when they aren't putting theirs lives on the line for the country they love. They ARE working in 110 degree weather and then some. Does that make you feel any better? I believe they get free coffee in the military.

Now, my other son is 23 years old. He is serving a 2 1/2 year sentence in prison for a felony. When he is released, his job prospects will not be good with a felony on his record. I imagine he will have to look into the construction or a landscaping business in order to earn a living.

Since illegal aliens are willing to work for very low salaries in these industries, my son will have to work for driven down wages. Since most Americans don't live in boarding houses, my son will probably have to live at home because he won't be able to afford housing.

I make no excuses for his behavior. He must pay the consequences for his actions. He probably will be working in 110-degree weather, so that should help you change your mind. He doesn't drink coffee either.

The next time you want to insult young Americans, please do some research and find out what they are really doing.

Well, that's certainly good to hear because he is wrong and quite frequently......usually on an hourly basis as a daily occurence.

I'm fairly certain that he was hired as CNN's in-house comic and they just like to let him think that he's a serious journalist.

    That's just more wishful thinking

No, no.......more wishful thinking would be that, secondary to all IAs self deporting overnight, Navarette either

1.) Goes with them in an emotional and heartfelt gesture of solidarity, or:

2.) becomes amnesiac, leaves CNN, and isn't seen until 20 years from now when he turns up in a small Colombian village, living as a reclusive and mysterious coffee farmer calling himself Juan Valdez, his sole companion being his trusty ass Geraldo
