Legal restrictions targeting illegal immigrants have contributed to a sharp fall-off in the remittances sent to Mexico from a number of US states, according to a survey published on Wednesday.

The survey, commissioned by the Inter-American Development Bank, shows that Mexicans living in southern and other US states without a strong tradition of Latin American immigration – such as Louisiana, North Carolina and Georgia – are feeling uneasy about the future.

These states have also seen a recent surge in legislation increasing penalties for those who employ illegals and making it more difficult for migrants to obtain driving licences and other documentation, for example.

Ya know, I really don't care if their GDP goes down due to falling remittances from illegals. Maybe they'll fix their own damn country.

My daughter was living out there a couple of years ago and she kept arguing with me there weren't many illegals out there. I had read about them. The article I read was from the union viewpoint. The union spokesperson was bragging about how many of 'our members' were working in the hotels. They were members although they were illegals.

One afternoon, we had to drive to a different part of LV than she usually frequented to a mall where they were holding a dress for her. We got stopped at a school crossing just as school was letting out. I thought we would never get started again - gobs of little Hispanic kids.

She allowed as to how there might be a few in LV.

Remittances from Guatemalan, El Salvadorian and Honduran migrants, who tend to be concentrated in these traditional areas, rose by 11 per cent in the first six month of this year from just under $4.5bn to almost $5bn.
Just how many countries do they think this one country can support!! I know it has always been way more than Mexico but when they blatantly rub it in our face it really makes my blood boil. Its not bad enough being invaded by one country but a whole continent is something else. Gee I wonder why America has gone to hell!!!

We better get back to screaming to congress about our border and laws!!!
