RICHMOND, Va. -- The House of Delegates voted 67-33 Thursday to pass a bill barring illegal aliens from Virginia public colleges.

The bill now goes to the Senate, where a similar measure died in committee last year.

There was no debate on the bill Thursday, but supporters have argued that it is unfair for people who are in this country illegally to take college seats that otherwise could go to those who have taken the effort to establish legal residence.

Opponents say the bill, sponsored by Republican Delegate Frank Hargrove of Hanover County, would unfairly punish young people for their parents' actions and that it would hurt the economy by limiting undocumented immigrants to low-paying jobs that don't require a college degree.

The House amended the bill Wednesday to limit its application to students seeking enrollment for the first time. Critics had complained that it would be burdensome and expensive for colleges to check the status of all students already enrolled.

Without debate, the House also voted 76-23 to pass legislation by Delegate John S. "Jack" Reid, R-Henrico, denying in-state tuition rates for illegal immigrants attending Virginia public colleges

I'm sorry but I think they should grant all the leeway to AMERICAN citizens first. And if there are a couple slots left for the kids of illegals to go to college they should have to pay triple the going rate to do it.

I'm really getting sick of them and their demands.
