Military Man: Alien at Internal Border Patrol Checkpoint?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meGJ0Wiou3U

The driver is a military field grade officer, decorated for heroism, with more than two years of combat deployment time. He is driving from one American city to another and has crossed no borders.

In the video the Border Patrol detains him quickly and without cause later claiming he refused to answer questions concerning his citizenship. The video shows this is clearly not the case. This charge is repeated by the supervisor who then contacts his military superiors in an (unfortunately successful) attempt to leverage his military service against him.

He was detained for more than thirty minutes without cause. He was eventually told by the officers that they appreciated his cooperation and was released. The full footage was captured on five different cameras. The footage here is limited in length by upload requirements. Legal action is pending concerning this incident and several previous at the same checkpoint.

Fortunately the driver was not assaulted for his oath-required support and defense of the U.S. Constitution. That was not the case for Baptist pastor Steven Anderson who required eleven stitches and new windows for exercising his rights at a Border Patrol station.

As the driver in this video attests, despite having conducted hundreds of operational missions in Afghanistan and Iraq, his routine travels through this checkpoint in Uvalde Texas have given him the most concern for his personal safety.

The Obama Administration is also watching for out bound money and arms right now. That's why he was questioned for hanging around the border.

Appears to be a case where border patrol was actually doing their job. Being in the military does not, and should not, automatically excempt a person from scrutiny. FTR, I'm retired military.

IMO, the video producer is just someone attempting to find trouble where none exist.

I have spent time along the border and have been stopped by the border patrol and gladly proved my citizenship and gave them a thumbs up for protecting our country from the invaders. They have a tough job.

I was not suggesting that this man get a free pass because of his military service. I’m suggesting that the border patrol is not doing its job because it took them 30 minutes to distinguish between someone in the military and a criminal. They also lied about the citizenship question. They did not own up to this lie, even in the face of video evidence.

The border patrol does indeed have a difficult job, but they make their own job more difficult by techniques that are ineffective (remember that this is an internal checkpoint, which can be up to 100 miles away from the actual border). I just finished a 147 page government report that provides DHS evidence that internal checkpoints do not work. The Tucson sector dedicates 4% of border patrol to internal checkpoints, but the arrest rate is 2.4%. The rates are similar in other sectors. It also defies common sense to have permanent internal checkpoints. The criminals and illegal aliens just go around them.

I find it disgusting that a man who performed several hundred missions in Iraq and Afghanistan fears more for his safety in the United States. He mounted cameras in his car because this is not the first time this harassment has happened. You try to do the right thing and this is how you are treated.
