Reynosa: Gunfire, grenades prompt warnings
Gunfire, grenades prompt warnings in Reynosa
by Sergio Chapa
Mutliple reports of gunfire and grenade explosions throughout Reynosa Reynosa have prompted authorities to ask residents to stay indoors.
It all started around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Reynosa city officials are asking area residents to stay indoors because the violence is so widespread.
City officials asked residents avoid Bulevar Hidalgo between the Broncos Baseball Stadium to Avenida Mil Cumbres.
Authorities also warned residents to avoid the area on the highway to Matamoros and Bulevar Colosio.
Many residents are reporting about the violence through Twitter.
Twitter users are reporting about blockades, shootouts and large convoys of soldiers.
Two Twitter users said they were inside the H-E-B supermarket at the Plaza Real off Bulevar Hidalgo when they heard grenades.
One user said she made it home safely but it's not clear if the other was still trapped inside the store.
Another Twitter user reported his friend was at the Home Depot next to the Plaza Real and that his friend was hiding underneath pots for his safety.
A different Twitter user said he was at the Plaza Divercia when gunfire and chaos erupted.
The Twitter user said soldiers showed up and that people and children were all on the floor for their safety.
"We can't leave, this has bene the worst minutes of my life," he said.
In another post he said, "They don't even respect Sundays...my respect to the families whose Sunday is ending in tragedy."
Another Twitter user reported that the Puente Gemelos was being blocked while others reported shootouts in the Colonias Villa Florida and Arboledas in the city's northwest side.
