RI: 2008 New Year Anchor baby father arrested!

Poetic justice: Rhode Islands 2008 New Year's baby was an anchor baby born to an illegal alien Mexican father. He was taken into custody and arrested shortly after all the publicity surrounding the birth of the anchor baby. Then in a weird twist, one of the fellow illegal alien Mexicans living with the father, mother and anchor baby kills himself.
Read the reaction of the local "Mexican-American" club.....they want to establish that the "fear of deportation" led to the roommate's suicide! Unbelievable...have they no shame?

    Celebrity father now facing deportation

PROVIDENCE — Two days after local media featured Mynor Montufar and Carmen L. Marrero as the parents of Rhode Island’s first baby of 2008, federal immigration agents arrested Montufar at his apartment.

Now Montufar is about to be deported.

And David De La Roca — also an illegal immigrant, one of several people who shared the couple’s apartment — is dead in an apparent suicide.

De La Roca was found hanging from a belt in a locked bedroom at 174 Bellevue Ave. on Friday, several hours after immigration agents raided it and arrested Montufar and another man.

A Providence police report confirms an account given by Marrero’s mother, who said she was one of several people present when a friend of De La Roca jimmied open the door and found the body.

Whether these events are connected is unknown, but family, friends, and some in the Hispanic community are asking these questions:

Did De La Roca hang himself when federal agents entered the apartment because he feared deportation? Was he already dead before agents arrived? Why didn’t agents force the locked bedroom door?

Did immigration authorities pursue Montufar after seeing his picture on television and in the paper?

    “It’s a coincidence,â€

Well, I guess this one should have stayed in the shadows. As for "distress triggered by fear of deportation", I doubt it. If he was so "distressed", why didn't he simply go home?

    Here's the news article.

Man faces deportation after making headlines in the local press

    Updated: Jan 7, 2008 07:34 AM

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The father of Rhode Island's first baby of 2008 has been arrested on an outstanding administrative deportation warrant.

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Mynor Montufar at his apartment after the local newspapers and television showed him and Carmen Marrero as parents of the first baby born in the state after the new year rolled in.

Another illegal immigrant who shared the couple's apartment, David De La Roca, was found dead in a suspected suicide shortly after Montufar was taken into custody. The man was found hanging from a belt in a locked bedroom at 174 Bellevue Aveenue on Friday.

The president of the Mexican-American Association of Rhode Island, Antonio Barajasm, says an investigation will show whether the death was a result of distress triggered by fear of deportation.

I'm glad they arrested him but what about the mother and her baby? They all should be deported, end of story.

He was hanging in the window??? How can anyone miss that from the outside?

Equating his suicide with ICE raids is atrocious. If that were the case, we'd have thousands committing suicide. I don't buy it.

These guys were from Guatamala, not Mexico.
