RI:ACLU Hosts Screening of Film on Immig. Detention System
ACLU cosponsors film screening

PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union will host a free screening of the highly acclaimed feature film, The Visitor, to help the public learn about the immigration detention system and the problems of racial profiling in Rhode Island, and to connect concerned residents with ways to get involved locally.
The film, starring Trinity Rep alumnus Richard Jenkins, will be shown Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Cable Car Cinema, 204 South Main St., in Providence.
In The Visitor, Tom McCarthy’s follow-up to his award-winning directorial debut The Station Agent, an American college professor and a young immigrant couple grapple with the treatment of immigrants and the legal process, post 9/11.
The RI ACLU said that it is screening the film against the backdrop of the death in August of a 34-year-old detainee while in custody at the Donald W.
