RI:ACLU Hosts Screening of Film on Immig. Detention System

    ACLU cosponsors film screening
01:00 AM EST on Sunday, January 11, 2009

PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union will host a free screening of the highly acclaimed feature film, The Visitor, to help the public learn about the immigration detention system and the problems of racial profiling in Rhode Island, and to connect concerned residents with ways to get involved locally.

The film, starring Trinity Rep alumnus Richard Jenkins, will be shown Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Cable Car Cinema, 204 South Main St., in Providence.

In The Visitor, Tom McCarthy’s follow-up to his award-winning directorial debut The Station Agent, an American college professor and a young immigrant couple grapple with the treatment of immigrants and the legal process, post 9/11.

The RI ACLU said that it is screening the film against the backdrop of the death in August of a 34-year-old detainee while in custody at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls, during “a period of increased community complaints about racial profiling by local police departments in the state.â€

    what?

I wonder what their definition of racial profiling is-the police putting up a roadblock to check for drunk drivers, checking everyone's license/registration, then detaining those without documents or with above legal limit alcohol?

Shouldn't they be fair and balanced and then show the movie "Border" that highlights some of the many dangers and problems that illegal immigration brings to the United States. Some community residents should look for ways to expose the truth following the pandering by the ACLU.

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
