RI gov promises to meet over immigration crackdown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Rhode Island Gov. Don Carcieri will meet with an advisory panel critical of a state crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Carcieri promised the meeting Tuesday after three clergymen on the panel complained that Carcieri has twice delayed sitdowns with the group to discuss the consequences of his executive order targeting illegal immigrants.

The governor did not set a date for the meeting during an interview on WPRO-AM.

The advisory panel issued a report in January that said an executive order that Carcieri signed last year was widely misunderstood and feared.

It forces State Police and prison officials to identify illegal immigrants for possible deportation. It also tries to keep illegal immigrants out of the work forces of the state government and companies doing business with the state.

    LMFAO

CONSEQUENCES was the word used? That is just too funny.

REWARDS sounds like a more appropriate word there...

Whoa! Forces? A bit too strong and shows a bit of bias there, AP. Better phrasing would be: makes it mandatory or requires. And what is really wrong with keeping illegals out of government and companies doing business with the state?

    Separation of church and state...

Anyone with half a brain can see that the clergy is salivating at the prospect of 20+ million members with enhanced income well above what they would have earned in their native lands.

Tithing will skyrocket... CHA-CHING!!! The clergy will have an immediate and tangible say in American policy via votes. Why do you think the Pope is up America's posterior endorsing amnesty for the illegals, who, BTW, are about 95% Catholic.

No offense to any particular religion, so please respect my opinion.

    Once again, follow the money.
