Mass citizenship drive set for today

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A mass effort to start immigrants on the path to U-S citizenship comes to Providence today.

Advocacy groups for Hispanic immigrants are running four sites where people can start filling out citizenship applications.

It's part of a national effort to sign up more than one (m) million people across the country.

Organizers here include Immigration Service Providers, Progreso Latino and the Catholic Diocese of Providence. Many of these groups fought for an immigration reform bill earlier this year that would have provided a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

If I ran the country, I would have ICE show up at all this events and verify who was legal who was not and deport illegals immediately. But of course, I would also have done that on May 1, in Waukegan last week, etc.

I wish I understood immigration law better.I have done some research but,oh my,it is confusing.

Does anyone know how many immigrants we give citizenship to per year? Is there a set number?

Once you apply how long before you get a green card ? it is confusing....I ask because so many illegals are applying doesn't that hurt folks who are trying to come here legally?
