Bakersfield Councilman wants to deny city services to illegal immigrants

Fourth ward Bakersfield City Councilman David Couch is taking aim
at illegal immigrants living in the city limits. At Wednesday's city council meeting, Couch will present three resolutions.

One would declare English the official city language. English is already the official language of California. The second states that Bakersfield not become a "sanctuary" for illegal immigrants. Third, and the most controversial asks city staff to research which city services could be denied to illegal immigrants. Couch told 29 Eyewitness News he was prompted to act.

"The federal government has failed to act in an appropriate manner," said Couch.

Immigration continues to be one of the most hotly contested--and divisive---issues and Bakersfield is no exception.

"Who is he to say such a thing? Where do his ancestors come from?"
said Bakersfield resident Henry Gonzalez.

"The councilman is very interested in making political hay out of this," said Jess Nieto, director of Heritage of America a non-profit organization which has services for immigrants.

The resolutions will be presented at the Bakersfield City Council meeting Wednesday evening starting at 6:30 pm.

This is the mindset that these people have... they have been taught it, and its being reinforced. I mean, EVEN if we didn't come hear 200 years ago... so that means what? WE GIVE YOU FREE SERVICE? HAVE OUR SCHOOL SYSTEMS GO TO SH*T? ...

I mean, that argument is soooooooooooooo tired.

I would like someone to just say back.. "and that means what? that you can be a freeloader? that you can make life miserable for others? what? where do you come from? Mexico? oh, then what are you doing here?...."

Immigrants, legal and illegal, use the same tired argument..."we are a nation of immigrants". What they forget is the only thing that made this diverse nation work is one set of laws for all.

Good for councilman Couch. Since Bush and his big biz government isn't worth a hill of beans, a lot of brave people in city government are standing up to say NO MORE ! Enough is enough! Whatever it takes we want these illegals out.

BAKERSFIELD - Councilman David Couch caused a huge stir when he proposed a resolution to keep Bakersfield from becoming a safe haven for illegal immigrants. At Wednesday night’s Bakersfield City Council meeting, he made only a brief statement about the proposal, and then left town.
His statement and abrupt departure left many questions unanswered.

Over the past couple of days, there was talk about Couch’s plan to unveil a three-pronged approach to, in his words, control illegal immigration at a local level.

Although he only made a public comment, his words stirred up lots of emotion with the community.

“It may be a minority, but we have to address the fact that some of them have come here illegally or just to obtain benefits,â€

I hope Councilman Couch gets those racist hispanics ALL stirred up and makes their hemorrhoids burn. Give it to 'em Couch!

Good luck. That's a California city...toughest state to enact anti-illegal immigration legislation.
