Group behind plan for 'Report an Illegal Day' speaks out
Group hands out fliers to "Report An Illegal Day"

PHOENIX -- The National Socialist Movement, which is considered by many to be a neo-Nazi hate group, is passing out fliers for an event to coincide with Cinco de Mayo.

"The proper, respectrul term would be a National Socialist, we are American patriots," said National Socialist Movement spokesman J.T. Ready. "This is the premier white civil rights organization in the world."

According to a flier received by ABC15, the National Socialist Movement is calling May 5th "Report An Illegal Day".

The one-page flier calls on people to fax or email Congress and demand that the border be secured. It also urges people to ask local businesses to participate in e-verify and to turn in people to DHS and ICE.

"We don't celebrate the Fourth of July down in Mexico, so we don't expect Cinco de Mayo to be celebrated here," said Ready while holding a large stack of the group's fliers.

Many Phoenix-area residents were angered after seeing the flier.

"It's unbelievable to me," said Heather Fitzpatrick after she saw the single page flier. "I think the whole thing is really offensive."

"They're trying to do something like this on a day which is so special to us like Cinco de Mayo," said Phoenix resident Anna Duran.

Duran said she has no plans to change her Cinco de Mayo celebration plans in light of the handout, but she is concerned about her friends and family's safety.

"It's really scary, it's not just for me, I have two girls who were born in this country," said Duran. "It's just not right, we are humans, we are people and we have feelings."

The National Socialist Movement flier does have a Phoenix P.O. Box and phone number attached.

"Our recruitment numbers are swelling," said Ready. "There are people coming forward who aren't scared to be called a name."

Ready was quick to point out his freedom to pass out the fliers and said he has even met with police agencies so they are aware of the fliers.

ABC15 spoke with two Valley police departments which confirmed they were aware of the National Socialist Movement and the fliers the group was handing out.

"Some agencies have already received them (fliers) and reviewed them. They have no problem with our lawful activities," said Ready.

Others who read the flier, calling for the May 5th Celebration, said they were upset.

"It does make me mad, it's wrong, it's very racist," said Pedro Falcon. "I'm not going to be living in fear that day or anything."

According to the group's website, the National Socialist Movement wants each member to hand out 25 fliers.

"I think it's just time for everybody to get along," said Tempe resident Joe Favrone after reading the flier. "I feel threatened by hate every single day by people's judgments, I think that's why we're so messed up as a country."

Ready says the group has no plans to conduct any demonstration on Cinco de Mayo, instead he said he and other members will be placing the fliers in neighborhoods across the Valley.

The Cinco de Mayo is not a major holiday in Mexico either it is the celebration of the Battle of Puebla which was important to Benito Juarez and Porfirio Diaz. The consulates gave it major support under their administrations and the community continued out of habit. The major celebration in Mexico is Independence Day which comes in September.

The National Socialist Movement is neo Nazi
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
