Rising numbers of Venezuelans seek exile in US

Rising numbers of Venezuelans seek exile in US

    By GISELA SALOMON, Associated Press
    10:22 a.m., June 24, 2011

MIAMI — A growing number of Venezuelans are fleeing to the United States and seeking political asylum.

About 4,500 Venezuelans received asylum between 2000 and 2010, five times more than occurred during the previous decade.

Most are young professionals and business leaders who feel threatened by President Hugo Chavez's socialist-oriented government.

One man who organized parties says he was driving in Caracas in 2007 when two men from the state security service pulled him over, called him a traitor to Chavez and put a gun to his head. He soon moved to Miami and received asylum.

The Venezuelan embassy in Washington had no comment on the trend.

    NO AMNESTY

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.

I am sick and tired of amnesties, lotteries, political asylums, etc. We cannot save the entire planet from their misery.

It has yet to occur to all of these 3rd world folks that Americans are being bred out of existence in our own country and that they are destroying our lifestyles and culture.

Of course, even if they do realize it, it doesn't matter to them. They just want the good life, even if means destroying those of use who built this country.

They can go to other countries. America is not the only destination for exiles.

These hispanics are such punk-ass cowards. I dont remember swarms of Americans running to other countries after 9/11.

Do like they did in the past. Set quotas on immigration. Once the quota is filled...you just wait your turn like the rest of the immigrants.
