Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents, in two separate incidents Wednesday, apprehended 10 Mexican nationals who were in the country illegally and seized approximately 466 pounds of marijuana.

According to the Yuma Sector Communications Division, agents assigned to Wellton Station were patrolling south of mile marker 86 on Interstate 8 when they encountered five individuals, each carrying a bundle of marijuana.

The marijuana weighed approximately 256 pounds and had an estimated street value of $128,140.

In a separate incident the same day, agents assigned to Wellton Station were patrolling near Potato Field Road when they encountered five individuals carrying nine bundles of marijuana. The marijuana seized in this incident weighed approximately 210 pounds and had an estimated street value of $105,055.

The marijuana and the 10 suspects were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office for prosecution.

But according to Richard Marosi of the Los Angeles Times reported today:

Perhaps no area has more action-starved agents than the Yuma sector, a vast expanse of desert and agricultural fields straddling California and Arizona that shares a 126-mile border with Mexico. In 2005, it was the border's most trampled region, a place where immigrant rushes, called banzai runs, sent hundreds of people into backyards and lettuce fields, and teams of drug smugglers shot across the Colorado River atop sandbag bridges.

And we have this recently reported in the Yuma Sector:

There are probably more but need to go to bed.
