Daly City police seeking suspect in pry-bar beating of elderly woman
John Coté, Chronicle Staff Writer

(01-17) 18:29 PST DALY CITY - Police are searching for a 28-year-old South San Francisco man suspected of savagely beating a 78-year-old widow inside her Daly City home and leaving her for dead after she surprised him during a robbery attempt.
The woman was upgraded today to critical condition at a local hospital after she suffered life-threatening injuries from being beaten in the face and head with a metal pry bar Saturday, Daly City police said.
They identified the suspect in the attack as Jose Perez-Gonzalez, 28, an illegal alien originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, who has been living in South San Francisco.
Perez-Gonzalez may be employed as a house painter in the San Jose area and may frequent exercise gyms in San Francisco during the early evenings, police said.
He has tattoos of a black-and-red Harley Davidson motorcycle emblem and a black dragon band on his right arm. He may also have "Mexico" tattooed in large letters running up his inner right forearm, police said.
Perez-Gonzalez - who has used the names Antonio Perez, Moses Omar Lopez-Padilla, Jose De Jesus Perez-Gonzalez and Juan Arellano - is also a suspect in the Dec. 21 burglary of a Pacifica home, Daly City police Lt. Jay Morena said.
Police did not say how they had focused Perez-Gonzalez as a suspect.
The Daly City attack came after the burglar had apparently telephoned the victim earlier in the day and posed as a package deliveryman in an effort to determine when the woman was going to be home, police said.
"This was not a random burglary," Morena said. But he added that police suspect the burglar tried to strike when no one was home.
"It was not a home invasion-type of burglary," Morena said. "The phone call was to find when she wouldn't be there."

Of course, the reporting of the incident is disingenuous in the least, and propaganda in the worst:

I'm telling ya... if that was my grand mother I would have been all over the news "I would have snapped"
We dont see these things on the multi-media news and if we do it is limited information ... I am talking TV, radio, News Papers and never ever does it include the persons race.
But let a white guy snap "Cause he isnt going to take it anymore" and it's national headlines, front page, breaking news on CNN, FOX, New York Times....

Daly City offers $10,000 reward for information on beating of 78-year-old woman

DALY CITY - A brutal assault on a 78-year-old woman during a daytime burglary in an upscale Daly City home has left the victim in critical condition and prompted the city to offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of her suspected attacker, police reported Thursday.
The assault began with a burglar forcing his way into a house in the city's quiet Serramonte neighborhood and concluded with the senior lying semi-conscious, fighting for her life on the floor of her own home.
She was bleeding profusely from massive blows to the face and the head _ the victim of repeated strikes to the head with a crowbar, according to police.
"It was horrible," said Daly City Police Lt. Jay Morena. "In my 28 years, I can't recall anything similar - such a vicious attack on an innocent person inside her home in broad daylight."
Officers responding to a silent burglary alarm found the woman shortly after 3:40 p.m. on Saturday in what police are now calling a "botched attempt" at a burglary.
Investigators now believe the man who committed the crime had called her earlier in the day, impersonating a delivery man with a package which required a signature. He had apparently intended to learn when the woman would not be at home, police said.
The suspect arrived at the home shortly before 3:15 p.m., breaking into a rear sliding glass door with his crow bar, police said. The woman apparently surprised the burglar inside her home and suffered the consequences, according to police.
"He just repeatedly beat her with a crowbar on the side of the face and the head ... and left her for dead," said Morena.
The woman, a longtime Daly City resident with two adult children in the Bay Area, remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit of an area hospital, police reported. Her children are "shocked and obviously extremely concerned about their mother, but doing as well as can be expected," Morena said.
Although police believe the suspect did not intend to attack the woman, investigators now believe her home was specifically targeted for burglary.
Since the attack, the Daly City Police Department has placed eight detectives on the case, "working day and night since Saturday afternoon," Morena said. "Just the heinous idea of what this guy did - it's providing a lot of adrenaline to keep a lot of detectives up for a lot of hours."
Investigators have positively identified a suspect with telephone records from the woman's phone service and physical evidence left at the scene of the crime which matches evidence from a burglary in Pacifica in December.
Police are now searching for Jose Perez Gonzalez, 28, of South San Francisco. Gonzalez, who stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 145 pounds, is an undocumented immigrant from Guadalajara, Mexico, police reported. He has shaved black hair, brown eyes and several distinctive tattoos on his right arm: a Harley Davidson motorcycle emblem and a black dragon.
Gonzalez, who often uses aliases, may work as a house painter in the San Jose area and may frequent gyms in San Francisco, police said. He is now wanted on suspicion of attempted murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault, among other charges.
Police would not say whether Gonzalez has a prior criminal record but provided the Times with a mug shot from a previous arrest.
"The investigation division is allocating three-quarters of its personnel and all of its resources to this investigation," Morena said. "It's a very high priority for the Daly City police to apprehend this vicious guy."
Anyone with information is urged to call the police at (650) 991-8119 or Detective Greg Oglesby at (650) 222-9640. Callers may remain anonymous or confidential.

First they say he's an "undocumented immigrant" then they provide an arrest photo. I'd call that a document! I'd like a photo of this jerk since I'm in San Jose and can help look for him. Did a search on the Merc and nothing showed up.
