Ruben Navarrette: Immigration unlikely to be Obama priority
RUBEN NAVARRETTE JR. THE UNION-TRIBUNE
Immigration unlikely to be Obama priority
November 12, 2008
In July, during an address to the annual meeting of the National Council of La Raza, Barack Obama promised to make comprehensive immigration reform “a top priority in my first year as president.â€NO AMNESTY

I can't believe I'm going to say this... I agree with Navarrette, that immigration unlikely to be Obama priority.

Ditto.......It won't be a top priority to him. It wouldn't have been for either him or McCain. That was made clear when illegal immigration was avoided during the campaign. But he needs to feel the heat relentlessly from us because we can be sure the opposition will be putting the pressure on.

It's not that Emanuel has anything against immigrants or immigration reform. It's just politics.
In any event, I for once hope Navarette is right in his assertion that immigration reform, AKA amnesty, will not be a top priority in Obama's administration this year.
One more thing:
It's true that President-elect Obama owes Latinos an enormous debt for giving him two-thirds of their votesJoin our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

"ending workplace raids" is a de facto amnesty....that's exactly what the illegals want anyway....they want to remain here no matter what...they don't care about being "legalized"...they get free K-12 education for their kids, free health care and a menu of state and local public freebies.....as long as they're here ...American workers, their families and all taxpayers will be forced to continue to support this utter lawlessness and disrespect for our generous immigration system...at a time when Americans can least afford this. Shameful.
Ending the raids = amnesty for illegal aliens, and fugitive criminal illegal aliens as well and a boost for all the profiteers of illlegal immigration including the Mexican cartels, human smuggling organizations and the tens of thousands of illegal alien gang bangers living in the U.S.

If Obama does break his pledge and foster lawlessness by stopping the federal workplace enforcement actions, then we will keep pressuring localities and states to crack down on illegal immigration.
