A man on the lam in Mexico from a Tucson murder charge walked across the border in Douglas and surrendered, authorities said.
The suspect was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers who identified him as Cesar Huasica-Imperial, 20. He later was booked into the Pima County Jail, which listed him as Cesar Alfredo Huasica, 20.
Huasica was named in an arrest warrant charging him with first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault with a weapon and aggravated assault with injuries, said Brian D. Levin, a Customs and Border Protection spokesman.
Huasica was charged in the Aug. 7 shooting of Luis Lopez, 20, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson police spokesman.
Lopez and his brother, who roomed together in the 1000 block of East Fort Lowell Road, were in a car in the 3500 block of East Seneca Street when they were shot several times in what police said was a gang-related shooting.
Lopez was found lying dead in the street, police said. His brother was found wounded and was taken to a hospital, police said.
Huasica crossed into Douglas Monday, Levin said. Jail records show he was transferred to jail here Tuesday.
Levin said he did not know why Huasica surrendered, and that Huasica didn't give a reason.
