COLUMBIA—Acting United States Attorney Kevin F. McDonald stated today that Leonardo DeLeon, age 30, of Myrtle Beach, pled guilty in federal court to illegally re-entering the United States after deportation. United States District Judge Terry L. Wooten of Florence will impose sentence DeLeon at a later date.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department’s Gang Unit identified DeLeon as a member of the Mexican Mafia street gang, and contacted federal agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. DeLeon’s fingerprints were processed, and he was determined to be the same man who had been convicted of attempted murder in Texas in 1999, using the name Cristan Reconco-Solorzano. After being deported to his home country of Hoduras in 2001, Deleon illegally re-entered the United States, and had been residing in Myrtle Beach.

McDonald stated the maximum penalty Deleon can receive is a fine of $250,000.00 and imprisonment for 20 years.

The case was investigated by agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Myrtle Beach Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II, of the United States Attorney’s office in Florence handled the case.
