SAN DIEGO - San Diego area border agents arrested about two dozen people and seized 2,274 pounds of pot, 58 pounds of cocaine and about 2.5 pounds each of heroin and methamphetamine last week, authorities said today.

Between April 16 and yesterday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents netted drugs with a street value of about $7.5 million at the Otay Mesa and San Ysidro border crossings, Angelica De Cima of CPB said.

Of 24 marijuana seizures, the largest occurred at San Ysidro about 4 a.m. Wednesday, when CBP agents, with the help of a dog, found 171 pounds of pot hidden in the bed of a 1988 Ford F-150, she said. A 55-year-old Tijuana man was arrested, De Cima said.

A U.S. citizen whose name was withheld was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when an undocumented Mexican female was found hiding under a blanket in the back of the Ford Escape she was driving, federal officials said.

In addition to the smuggling and drug arrests, 19 people were arrested last week on warrants for crimes ranging from kidnapping and forgery to drug- related and parole violations, she said.
