SAN DIEGO – Border Patrol agents shot a suspected migrant smuggler early Wednesday in a predawn raid on a San Ysidro motel.
The injured man was hit in the leg, police said. He was taken to a San Diego hospital where his wound was deemed not life-threatening.
The incident began shortly after 3:30 a.m. when several uniformed Border Patrol agents entered Room 252 of the Economy Inn on Via de San Ysidro off Interstate 5, said San Diego police Capt. Cesar Solis.
That's where they confronted two Latino men, one of whom was known to have a history of immigrant smuggling.
One of the men was on the bed lying under a blanket, Solis said.
'They told both men repeatedly not to move, in Spanish,' the captain said. 'One complied and was taken into custody.â€Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Man Shot in San Ysidro by Border Patrol Agent is Identified
Feb 14, 2008
A man shot in the leg at a San Ysidro motel by a U.S. Border Patrol agent was publicly identified Thursday as 35-year-old Martin Bahena Moreno, police said.
Moreno was shot at around 3 a.m. in room 232 at the Economy Inn on Via de San Ysidro Boulevard, off Interstate 5, according to San Diego police Lt. Manny Guaderrama.
Border Patrol officials said agents received a tip that illegal immigrants were being brought to the room and found Moreno and another man inside the room. Moreno was under bed covers and moving around suspiciously, as though he had a concealed gun, officials said.
An agent fired one shot, wounding Moreno in his left leg, Guaderrama said.
Moreno was taken to Paradise Valley Hospital in National City where he remains hospitalized this morning, according to a hospital operator.
Border Patrol officials have not said whether a gun was recovered.
