SAN DIEGO -- Because of San Diego's high gas prices, people in border cities such as Tijuana are having to pay a lot more for their gas, and they're not very happy about it, 10News reported.

A Mexican law meant to keep residents from going north of the border to get cheaper gas is now backfiring.

Gas stations in Tijuana and other Mexican border cities have to charge the same amount as stations in places like San Diego.

People have to take to the streets, according to a Mexicali resident. He wants the Mexican government to bring prices down.

To make a point, taxi drivers have staged a border blockade in Mexicali, stopping northbound traffic.

A cab driver said prices are 20 percent cheaper in cities like Ensenada and Mexico City.

The amount of gas deliveries is adding to the problem.

The Mexican government is selling more gasoline to countries such as China instead of its own gas stations.
