March for immigration reform

The leaders of the United Farm Workers union got the large crowd revved up, as did San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who helped lead the march.

More than one thousand people waving red and American flags gathered in Delano Sunday afternoon at Cesar Chavez park to commemorate the late UFW founder's birthday.

While they rally had the traditional theme of improving farmworkers’ rights, this year, the main focus was immigration reform.

“These workers that have worked 450 days in the two previous years prior to the signing of the legislation will receive some kind of legal status, temporary legal status, so they can work in agriculture for three to six years,â€
