Thread: Exploded Mexican truck was unlicensed to carry explosives

The more that becomes known about the Mexican truck that blew up two days ago, the more disturbing it is. The driver apparently survived the crash and has gone missing. The company that owns the truck isn't talking. The truck itself was not licensed or equipped to carry explosives.

The unidentified driver of the trailer fled the scene, shouting that he was carrying explosives, said witnesses and authorities.

State police said late Monday that the truck was not licensed to carry explosives.

"It's not possible to understand ... how a truck with 25 tons of explosives could drive on the highway with no type of protection," said the white-haired Vera, wearing his white priestly robes.

Enrique Luna, the chief of police investigations in Monclova, a steel city a few miles from the accident site, said the driver of the truck and a co-driver had survived the explosion and were wanted for questioning.

"They haven't been located," Luna said.

Orica refused to comment on the incident.

"There is no spokesperson available," said a woman who answered the phone at Orica's headquarters in Coahuila and declined to identify herself. "I have no answers for you."

This is all the more reason why our borders need to be protected. Could this have been a trial run for terrorists gone awry? I wouldn't be surprised. If that is the case, then the terrorists certainly wasted no time, didn't they? Our Department of Homeland Security needs to take all such incidents into account. I'm sure the DHS is doing so as best as possible with the Congress we have, but it is quite apparent that we cannot trust the intentions of Mexican leaders if they do not respect the United States' need for stricter border security. Canada respects this... why can't the Mexicans? I think it's because Mexico has its own agenda.

Why doesn't this surprise me? I would love to see any statistics on just how many mexican trucks are actually licensed. I would bet the stats (if there are any) show single digit percentages.

Could America have been the FINAL DESTINATION of this Mexican truck carrying explosives? With Bush wanting open access to Mexican trucks, we will probably see more of this kind of thing.

Something is wrong with this whole picture and I agree that it's quite likely this had everything to do with, if not actual terrorist activity, something illegal

Even if the drivers did run off, you would expect that the trucking company would be addressing the issue and be horrified by what has happened. Instead, they've clammed right up.

The irony here really amazes me. If this accident had happened in the U.S., and likely would have, Bush would have woke up one morning to find thousands of Americans at his gate demanding his arrest. Although it was VERY unfortunate that some people were killed in this, all of the corrupt leaders in this country that voted to keep the trucks rolling into the U.S. SHOULD BE THANKING THEIR LUCKY STARS. American citizens would have been outraged if this had happened in the U.S. and that's putting it mildly. Maybe this will be a wake-up call for them (doubt it!).

25 tons of explosives would have caused something like what happened in OC., maybe worse.
