Aiken County Council Approves Anti-Illegal Immigration Resolution

Aiken County, SC

There is new information on a resolution in support of anti-illegal immigration in Aiken County.

In a unanimous vote Tuesday night, the Aiken County Council approved the measure.

Councilwoman Kathy Rawls proposed the bill because it supports South Carolina's current anti-illegal immigration bill...which is a lot like Arizona's new immigration law.

In Arizona, if a person is stopped for committing a criminal offense and the police officer suspects the person is in the country illegally, they can ask to see that person's documents. If those documents can not be provided, those people can be detained.

Right now, South Carolina's immigration bill is in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The county has sent a letter to the state legislature encouraging them to pass the bill.
