CPD intercepts 13 illegals
Driver arrested for blackmail
One man is in jail, a 10-year-old girl is under S.C. Department of Social Services (DSS) protection and 13 men face deportation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The "huge takedown," as Camden Police Department (CPD) Chief Joe Floyd described it, took place Wednesday night in the Wall Street Tigershop parking lot near the U.S. 521/I-20 interchange.

Floyd said Leonel Garcia DeLariva, 43, of Houston, Texas, was arrested on a blackmail charge and is being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center. According to Floyd, DeLariva was the driver of a large passenger van belonging to a Texas company called Transportes Tania.

"He had left Texas with a group of people he was transporting across the country. Some of them were dropped off in Atlanta, and they had stopped here to drop off an individual who was trying to reach family in Cassatt," said Floyd. "As they came into Camden, (DeLariva) had told him the $280 transportation fee was no longer going to be adequate, that it would be necessary to have family members have $800 for him to be released."
