Nevada fugitive captured

at Savannah residence

A man accused of attempted murder in Nevada was captured Thursday at a residence on Coffee Bluff Road.

The U.S. Marshals Service said late Friday that a task force of law enforcement officers cooperated in the arrest of Javier Huizar Dominguez, 28, as he was held up inside a residence in the Coffee Bluff Marina, according to a Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department report.

With the help of SCMPD, the Chatham County Sheriff's Office and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office, federal marshals were able to take Dominguez into custody with little incident, the report stated.

Dominguez was being sought on a warrant issued in Henderson, Nev., is near Las Vegas, charging him with attempted murder with a deadly weapon and battery with a deadly weapon. The Marshals Service said Dominguez had been on the run since September.

Immigration was the first to note that Dominguez was in Savannah. Officers from that office received a tip and passed it along to the federal marshals. Once officers confirmed the suspect's identity, the federal agents converged on the home and surrounded it.

According to a statement provided by the U.S. Marshal's Service, it also was determined that Dominguez was an illegal alien. A detainer is being placed on him by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.

Dominguez is awaiting extradition to Nevada at the Chatham County jail.
