Pair admit guilt in green card scam

From staff reports

Two Myrtle Beach residents pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally producing green cards and social security cards and face up to 15 years in prison on the charges, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Jaime Morales-Salazar, 45, and Yolanda Alvarez- Espinosa, 35, each pleaded guilty to producing alien registration cards and social security cards Thursday in Florence, the release said. The pair will be sentenced at a later date.

Evidence presented during Thursday's hearing showed that during Operation Green Wave, a join effort between Horry County police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, undercover officials purchased counterfeit cards from the pair at Mundo Latino on S.C. 544 in Conway. The purchases occurred between July 19, 2005 and Feb. 16.

On March 23, police searched 202 Weyburn St., Myrtle Beach and the store and found numerous items related to the production of the fraudulent documents. Those items included 57 Social Security card stocks; 61 resident alien cards stock; glue sticks, laminators; lamination jackets, scanners; printers; and copiers. The pair were arrested the next day.
