Schumer proposes ID card to curb illegal immigration

SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. -- U.S. Senator Charles Schumer says curbing illegal immigration is simple. All it takes is an ID card.

"How many of you would support an employment card?" Schumer asked.

Senator Schumer's federal solution for stopping the flow of illegal immigration gets the old fashioned seal of approval at a town hall meeting in Watkins Glen.

"People are willing to see immigrants come into the country for needed jobs. But they want to see it done in a thoughtful, rational way," said Schumer.

Schumer believes illegal immigration could be cut by 90% under his plan to stop it at its source.

"We should require before anyone gets job, that they show a non-forgeable, bio-metric card," he said.

A machine to swipe the identification card would be provided by the government to the employer. By doing this, the responsibility does not fall on them, but instead the federal government.

Schumer said, "People say why don't we go after employers who hire illegal immigrants? The reason is very simple, when you go to an employer, he says, 'He showed me a social security card.'"

And if employers disobey the system, they will face major fines or jail time.

"They don't swipe and they hire, big fine, $10,000, second time, I'd go $50,000 or $100,000, third, jail time," said Schumer.

And Schumer said once the flow of illegal immigration is stopped, the system must be rationalized. Certain people for certain jobs.

I'm willing to listen to all good ideas, but I don't trust Schumer. Frankly, he and about 98% of the Democrats have no credibility on issues concerning illegal immigration.

How about NO and I am being nice...how about Deporting and we will not need an employment card...sheeezzz...and within a week or so the illegals will be forging away....with the help of business and the Mexican Consul and every other consul that wants to destroy this Nation

Jeez- What a bonehead! What is so hard for these folks to understand. I mean time and again WE have literally spelled it out for them. It ain't all about the illegals being here and working.

1. Americans are sick of losing our jobs, our work, to illegal aliens.
2. Americans are sick of footing the medical bills for illegal aliens.
3. Americans are sick of illegal alien anchor babies.
4. Americans are sick of press one for English.
5. Americans are sick of overpopulation in our public schools.
6. Americans are sick of our E.R.'s and hospitals shutting down.
7. Americans are sick of hearing "They are here and they aren't going anywhere".
8. Americans are sick of being told "We can't make them all leave."
9. Americans are sick of watching our culture slowly fall to the wayside while another culture elbows it's way in.
10. Americans are sick of our elected leaders, the folks to whom WE give paychecks, bend over backwards to protect and give OUR rights and priviliges to, all in hopes of their illegal vote.

I could go on all night, but I won't. Simply put- It ain't all about making illegals legally employable. We don't want them. We don't need them. Period.

Get a grip Schumer. This 'bright' idea of yours is just another pile in the pasture covered with flies.

Like many others, I'm sick of the pandering. This excerpt from Mark Krikorian destroys the MYTH that our country "needs" illegals:

"There is no economic need for foreign labor, legal or illegal...contrary to myths about "jobs Americans won't do," there is no major job category that is dominated by these illegal workers. The Census Bureau groups all jobs in the country into 473 categories, and in 2003-2004, only three small categories had even the tiniest majority of immigrant workers, legal and illegal. The large majority of America's taxi drivers, housekeepers, janitors, dishwashers, landscapers and construction laborers are native-born Americans."
