Schwarzenegger lauds Romney for dropping out of race
AFFORDABLE HOUSING TO GET $69 MILLION

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Thursday applauded former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's decision to exit the presidential race, saying his distance behind front-runner John McCain was too enormous.

"I'm all for staying in there and fighting till the end in sports," but Romney's move will reduce divisiveness among Republicans, the governor said.

The governor spoke in Palo Alto to reporters shortly after Romney suspended his campaign for the Republican nomination this morning.

Schwarzenegger also put in a plug for McCain, whom he had endorsed before Super Tuesday.

The Arizona senator is a visionary, environmentalist and tough negotiator, yet is conservative, the governor said.

"He can come to the middle, and he can cross the aisle," he said.

Schwarzenegger was on the Peninsula on Thursday morning to announce the state's $69.5 million investment in affordable housing statewide. The funds are part of $2.85 billion generated by Proposition 1C, the housing component of an infrastructure investment package that Schwarzenegger pushed and voters passed in 2006.

The state funds will pay nearly one-fourth of the $22.9 million cost of building 56 apartments in Palo Alto, designed for seniors earning less than $20,000 a year.

The project, by the state's largest non-profit builder, Bridge Housing of San Francisco, is part of the 12-acre redevelopment of the former Sun Microsystems property at San Antonio and Charleston

Bridge expects to break ground late this year and complete construction about a year later

Construction has been under way on the adjacent Taube-Koret Campus for Jewish Life, which will include a Jewish Community Center and 193 units of senior housing in six four-story buildings. Next door, Sares Regis Group is building 103 one- to four-bedroom market-rate townhomes and flats, which will sell for between $600,000 and $1 million.

I wish Schwarzenegger would drop out of the race. He has been a huge failure.

I heard on a news show today California has 5 years of back dna testing too do but they dont have the money, so you have repeat offenders on the street. Just maybe if they were not supporting all the illegials, they would have the money to run the test and protect the citizens

    "CONSERVATIVE"--hahahahahahahahaha!

"He can come to the middle, and he can cross the aisle" AND KEEP ON GOING TO THE OTHER SIDE OVER AND OVER AND OVER! He is a DEMOCRAT, NOT a REPUBLICAN.
