TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Two separate traffic stops along Interstate 10 southeast of Phoenix Friday led to the capture of several suspected illegal immigrants.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves said an officer stopped a vehicle on the westbound I-10 at Baseline Road around 5:30 a.m. The vehicle occupants fled on foot and Graves said 15 suspected illegal immigrants were detained at Arizona Mills Mall.

At 6:30 a.m., DPS pulled over a pickup truck at I-10 and Chandler Boulevard. Several individuals were found hiding under plywood in the back of the truck.

Graves said the stop led to 17 suspected illegal immigrants. The group includes two juveniles and three females. Four people including the driver ran from the scene. They were all taken into
custody at a nearby restaurant.
