Repeal clause on 'natural born' presidents

If John McCain, born in 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone, had been elected earlier this month to become the 44th president of the United States, would he be “American enoughâ€

Hey, let's just get rid of anything in the Constitution that somebody doesn't like. There's a good reason for being natural born. You start playing around with those requirements and what's next? The President should be the most "American" person in the land. Obama spent time in Kenya campaigning for Odinga, whose backers murdered 1000's of people. I wonder where some of his loyalties lie and maybe there would be some favortism in the coming "reign."

I suspect we may see it changed very soon, after Obama's birth certificate surfaces. Maybe they are just trying to soften us up!

I think we need to do the opposite and stop illegal alien babies from being natural born citizens.

Sorry, there's something to be said for right of passage for that position. Not every immigrant comming here today has good intentions for this country or not to mention possible alterior motives to undermine this government. We have so called "immigrants" who are just on a job search or collecting citizenships in order to widen their options. We have cheapened what it means to be a citizen and some time should pass before we start handing over the reigns to someone who has no real ties to this country. I'm not comfortable with Obama because of that. I wouldn't want a 5th generation citizen of this country, that has been living back in their own country for a few, comming back and running for President. They got citizenship somewhere down the line for being born by someone who was a citizen yet really isn't one......if you get my drift. It would be like me going back to Germany and running for public office. I might be German but I have no tie there.......and with this "global" business how do you determine who really has the best interest of the country at heart and who doesn't? Be affiliated with rich and powerful people and who's to say who would be running things? For all intensive purposes, Elviras son could come back in his lifetime and run for president......think he has good will or best intrest for this country? Have the money from corrupt Mexican officials and a "majority hispanic" vote and then what?

Remember the sleeper cells of the communists back in the 70s. What is to say that it still is not happening and God forbid we elect someone like that. I like the Natural Born Citizen law as that is our best defense.

I would not like to change the Natural Born clause except to demand that ALL elected officials not have dual citizenship. I believe that dual citizenship divides the loyalties and we need to vote for people to represent Americans only.

Exactly. I don't go for this dual citizenship business at all. I mean I can understand in some cases, but definately not for anyone running for public office or anything close to President.

There is a split betwen the Mexican Nationalists and the Mexican American Political Machine La Raza, MALDEF and LULAC with the Nationalists favoring development of Mexico and the machine favoring machine government in the United States. The Machine does not only want a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens and family reunification with a pathway to citizenship for those incoming relatives. The Machine wants for them to be able to vote here even if they leave. There are United States Congressional districts that are majority Latino and some like Xavier Becerras are majority illegal. Amnestyists get in there because the legals in those districts have been bringing illegal relatives here and want to have them legalized for work and have the government (the public really) pay benefits for them. Even if they go back to Mexico the could still be able to vote in Machine candidates by being dual citizens who send proxy ballots or leave them with Machine captains.

For the Mexican Nationalists there is an acceptance of voting from abroad it means that there is another arena for the competition among Mexican political parties. Some per centage of Mexicans living in the United States will also seek and gain American citizenship and they tend to be wealthier more able to give to campaigns. The sort of statement made by Frank Sharry formerly of National Immigration Forum currently of America Votes sees rural Jalisco as a bedroom community for Chicago. Mexican Nationalists are displeased by his attitude. The would want to have it be realized that it should be a bedroom community for Guadlajara. Mexicans living in the US have their use but Mexico could some day succeed to the point where it pulls even with the US and Canada.
