U.S. Customs and Border Protection made three busts in the Tucson area

TUCSON, AZ - U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents made three major arrests and seizures on Tuesday in the Tucson area, officials said.

According to a new release from CBP the first incident was at the Willcox Station when a canine team helped agents arrest two U.S. citizens who were attempting to smuggle 101 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $50,500. CBP reported a 7-year-old child with the two suspects was taken into Child Protective Services.

In the second incident, Casa Grande agents responded to calls that two vehicles were being loaded with narcotics near Federal Route 42. According to the CBP news release, agents searched both vehicles and found 222 pounds with a street value of $110,750.The suspects reportedly tried to flee, but were caught by agents and one suspect had a loaded .40 caliber handgun.

During the final incident, agents from Casa Grande station took a Guatemalan national into custody because an automated fingerprint identification system revealed the national as being convicted in 2007 for aggravated assault of a child and lewd & lascivious acts with a child in California. The suspect is being charged with re-entry of an aggravated felon, according to reports.
