    pro-immigration march through Wichita

    Downtown Wichita

    Sep 12, 2007 07:47 PM PDT

    by Jim Grawe

A pro-immigration march through Wichita advocated legal status for the 40 to 70 thousand illegals in Kansas.

Kansas United Corporation, which is a local civil rights group, gathered people at 23rd North and Broadway and took the street. They are calling for an end to INS raids and the stopping deportation of undocumented immigrants.

Instead, the group wants the U.S. to offer what are called "z visas". The visas allow people to enter the country and work for three years, then be awarded citizenship. The marchers say it would benefit all of Kansas.

"The Hispanic immigrants and the immigrants here in Kansas have always been a strong economic force," says march organizer Ken Thomas. "If we lose that force we are going to have economic problems here in Kansas."

They say agriculture, meat packing and construction trades rely on low-wage immigrant workers to keep costs down.

The march ended on the steps of city hall where hundreds gathered for a rally.

Its more like keeping AmMerican wages down. It might have ramifications for the meatpacking, agricultrue and construction businesses there because they won't have slave labor any more.

Being from around there I can tell you Kansas citizens aren't intrested in them or their demands.

They'll never learn. Remember, these are the same people who have been consuming lead since infancy.

How strange it would be if a few hundred illegal Americans marched to a city hall in a Mexican City and made demands on their government. I think it would be handled swiftly and surely. Now, which one of us is the third world country?

They wouldn't dare try what they do here in Mexico because they know what would happen.

What they don't realize, however, is that pc and Constitutional rights...even though they have none, is only going to go so far. This country is only going to put up with so much from them and I believe we've about reached that point.

If we adopted Mexico's immigration laws (and enforced them of course!!!!), we wouldn't have a problem.

My husband has had his own 'construction' business for over 30 years. We are about to go under. He does everything the right way. Pays all his taxes, insurances, workman's comp, blah blah blah, and pays a good wage. He refuses to hire illegals. But the competition is putting him out of business. It is easy to outbid him when the illegals aren't paying taxes and all the insurances.

I know this is an old story and is happening to a lot of people.
