SECURITY LEADERS: IMMIGRATION, TERRORISM INTRICATELY LINKED

Several national security and conservative leaders say that U.S. immigration policy must discourage multiculturalism and encourage assimilation, or America may face a serious effort from radical Islamists seeking to institute Sharia law here.

“What we need to do is make sure everyone coming into the United States understands who we are and that we are founded on Judeo-Christian values, that there is one rule of law and that’s what’s on the books and it’s not Sharia and we need to make sure we don’t engage in the same kind of mistakes in Europe where they did not engage in assimilation,” former Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI), the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said in an interview with Breitbart News on Monday.

“They [Europe] did not engage in assimilation so you ended up with pockets of decay in the Netherlands,” Hoekstra added. “I’m a native born Dutch guy, so I’m disappointed to see it happen. But where you did not have the assimilation then you have these pockets now where people are saying ‘we want Sharia law here,’ and you end up saying ‘no, no, no, no. That’s not how it works in the Netherlands. That’s not how it works in America.’ We have our sets of values and some things, and you know what, if you find our values and our laws somehow stifling and you can’t believe you can operate within them, then maybe America is not the best place for you to go. There have to be clear expectations for the kinds of behavior for the people who we allow to come into the United States. It’s a privilege, it is not a right.”

“They are all potential avenues for terrorists to get into the U.S.,” Hoekstra said after Breitbart News mention the insecure southern border and visa overstays as avenues for terrorists or those who want to harm American culture to get into or influence the U.S. “I think you missed two of the biggest ones out there which are very very difficult to control and one is social media-what’s happening on social media, where they can cross the border and we’ll never know it. The other one is influence or people with ties to Europe or America who have been actively involved in the fight in Syria or Iraq and then coming back. Will we be able to identify who they are when they’ve been radicalized and what will be the consequences when they come back? My belief should be that if we don’t have the legal capability we ought to develop the legal capability that if people who have fought with radical Jihadist groups overseas are coming back into the United States their citizenship should be revoked and they shouldn’t have access and the capability to come back.”

Advocates for immigration reform often note “America is a nation of immigrants.”

But conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza said many current immigrants from Latin America, the Middle East and elsewhere, aren't assimilating the way immigrants did in generations past.

“There’s no crisis at the border-the crisis is in Washington, D.C. Right? In other words, it’s not surprising that people from Mexico want to come over and seek a better life in America. It’s not surprising that people who wish us ill would try to sneak their way across the border,” D’Souza said. “That’s very predictable behavior. What’s particularly bizarre is we’re letting them do that. We’re letting them break our laws. We’re making our security more vulnerable. So the crisis is entirely in the mind of Obama and it’s in Washington, D.C.”

In the past, D’Souza said, immigrants by and large came to the U.S. with the same goals as America’s founding fathers and worked to become Americans-the “melting pot” theme, where immigrants assimilated into American communities. But today, he said, that’s not happening.

“I do think what makes immigration different today is that immigrants came in the past who embodied the spirit of 1776-a spirit to build this country,” D’Souza said. “Now we’re getting some immigrants who far from wanting to pull the bandwagon, just want to sit in the bandwagon-and that’s a big change-not to mention people who actually want to do harm to the country. Look if our government can monitor our every phone call and our every email and our every motion, you can be very sure they have the technology to spot every single person coming across the border. The problem is they don’t want to.”

A new report from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) out last week found that there are 2.5 million immigrants-legal and illegal-from “predominantly Muslim countries” inside the U.S. right now.

The four-page report, which uses U.S. Census Bureau and other data to make its conclusions, found that immigration from Muslim nations has exploded over the past 15 years. In 2000, there were 1,518,755 immigrants from Muslim countries in the U.S. In 2010, That number stood at 2,184,664, and in 2013 it stands at 2,480,407.

Former Director of Central Intelligence James Woolsey, who ran the CIA for the first two years of President Bill Clinton’s administration, told Breitbart News that the federal government’s efforts to downplay Islam’s role in terrorism and Jihad-such as the infamous description of Nidal Hassan’s Fort Hood shooting as “workplace violence”-allows Sharia law and forms of Islamist fascist ideology to creep into America more and more.

d“As long as we pretend that those are just random violence and they don’t have anything to do with radical Islam and commitment to Jihad, we will not be effective in dealing with them,” Woolsey said in an interview.

“We can’t be effective pretending that a phenomenon doesn’t exist. Calling Major [Nidal] Hassan’s murdering of his 13 fellow soldiers at Fort Hood, which you mentioned, when he had business cards saying he was a Jihadi and he was shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ as he murdered them, to have an incident like that and then write as the U.S. government did in its report a characterization of what happened that said nothing at all about Islam or muslims or Jihad or anything else is just ridiculous. Ray Bradbury’s great book Fahrenheit 451 is a portrait of what a society can be like if it turns into totally rigid political correctness and we are in danger of tilting in that direction.”

Former Rep. Allen West (R-FL), a longtime Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army before running for Congress a few years ago, told Breitbart News that in large part because of America’s politicians’ unwillingness to confront Islamist ideology and because of the nation’s lax immigration laws, the threat is already here.

“The threat environment has now come to our shores because we have not properly prosecuted it off of our shores,” West said. “So when you understand the non-state, non-uniform unlawful enemy combatants, the influence of countries like Qatar, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the rise of Russia and China-we have many of these different threats and what are we doing to our own United States military and capacity? We’re cutting it back because we are more so focused in this administration on expanding the welfare nanny state. So we are really setting ourselves up for an incredible catastrophic event in the future. Look at the fact that a 54-year-old woman in Moore, Oklahoma, was beheaded. This is a savage, barbaric thing that has come to our country. We had to witness James Foley and Steven Sotloff being beheaded. We have once again got to talk about foreign policy and national security. Al Qaeda is not decimated and it’s not on the run. Our military is being decimated but we have to restore that.”

West said there are a variety of three separate ideologies that are fighting constitutional conservatism, doing so together: progressive socialism, Islamic fascism and secular humanism. Together, they can undermine the U.S.’s standing in the world-and the safety and security of Americans back home-if constitutional conservatism doesn’t prevail.

“You have three different ideologies that are battling constitutional conservatism, that’s what we’re talking about,” West said. “You have progressive socialism which has these abhorrent effects upon our domestic policy but also our foreign policy and national security and therefore it gives rise to Islamic fascism and Islamic totalitarianism which we are seeing get stronger and stronger. ISIS is nothing more than Al Qaeda in Iraq reconstituted. And then the last thing you have is this secular humanism which is really going after the fabric of our Judeo-Christian faith heritage-which means if God doesn’t exist then who is the grantor of our inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. So then it becomes government. It is constitutional conservatism, that which is rooted in our Declaration [of Independence], our Federalist Papers, our U.S. Constitution, those fundamental documents, it has to be successful in prosecuting that ideological battle which is going on right now.”

The 9/11 Commission which studied the root causes of how Al Qaeda was able to hijack four American planes and crash three of them into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon notes many times throughout in its report that the non-enforcement of interior immigration laws opened the U.S. up to this attack.

“The 9/11 report also called it straight,” Woolsey said when asked about that. “It was dealing with Jihad and it called it ‘Jihad.’”
“I don’t know,” Woolsey added when asked in a followup why the U.S. government simply hasn’t taken the precautions to prevent similar immigration enforcement issues like the ones that led to 9/11. “In some cases, they have a narrative-which I think is a long word for ‘fib’-which they continue to reiterate and they try to make everything fit inside their narrative if in the real world they can’t. Part of that has to do with electoral politics I suppose but it’s completely ridiculous not to call it straight.”
