Undocumented immigrants comprise about 7 percent of the state's population and 9 percent of its workforce, according to a new report from the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California. The number of unauthorized immigrants in the state has held fairly steady at roughly 3 million for the past five years as immigrants settle more often in states other than California, according to the report, which is based largely on federal tax returns. Undocumented immigrants are heavily concentrated in farming areas and urban coastal communities. This map shows which areas have the highest proportion of undocumented immigrants.

Important Note:The following rural counties were combined to reduce sampling error and will show as duplicates on the map above: Amador, Calaveras, Tuolomne, Mariposa, Alpine, Mono, Inyo; Colusa, Glenn, Tehema, Trinity; Del Norte, Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen; Mendocino, Lake; Monterey, San Benito; Plumas, Sierra, Nevada; Sutter, Yuba.

Of the 82,467 illegal aliens deport by The I.C.E. Secure Communities Program as of 6/21/2011
31,853 were from California, MORE THAN ANY OTHER STATE.
