Sen. John McCain: Immigration Bill Will Have Teeth

Republican presidential hopeful John McCain says he's still working on comprehensive changes in immigration policy and rejects the assertion by some Democrats that he's walking away from a plan.

"We are trying to get a bill we can pass," McCain told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday. "Remember last year we failed?"

McCain said that any legislation passed this year would have to have some teeth.

"We have to satisfy people's concerns that we are truly securing the border," the Arizona senator said.

One difference with immigration legislation this session? "The White House and president are heavily engaged this year," McCain said. "They were not last year. That's made a difference."

McCain began a three-day swing through Iowa that was scheduled to include a two-day bus tour.
