Sen. Leahy Blocks Anti-Drug Aid to Mexico

Sen. Leahy Blocks Anti-Drug Aid to Mexico

    Wednesday, August 5, 2009 7:55 AM

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., blocked the release of a favorable State Department report on Mexico's human rights record, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.

Leahy's action delays the release of $100 million in U.S. aid meant to help Mexico combat drug traffickers. The Merida Initiative, a $1.4 billion, three-year package, requires Congress to withhold some of the funding unless the State Department reports that Mexico is not violating human rights while prosecuting the drug war, the Post reported.

"Those requirements have not been met, so it is premature to send the report to Congress," Leahy said in a statement released to the newspaper. "We had good faith discussions with Mexican and U.S. officials in reaching these requirements in the law, and I hope we can continue in that spirit."

The Post reported that the State Department had intended to send its report praising Mexico's progress on human rights to Congress this week. But aides to Leahy, chairman of the Senate Appropriations foreign operations subcommittee, cited reports of torture and forced disappearances in rejecting the report.

    Can they Withhold

Can they withhold the money because of Animal Rights violations? Between the Bull Fighting, Cock Fighting, Dog Fighting, (and even parakiet fighting or whatever else) they have helped kill who knows how many animals just because they like watching animals suffer and die.

Me too. I am glad to stop the aid to Mexico. Let them clean up their own mess. Are they giving us money to clean up their mess here in the country? The thing that scares me about the coming NAU is that a when I talk to people they just don't think "it'l never happen to the US" I am tired of the blind eye people have to these issues.

NAU want to enslave us to make themselves rich.

They are probably comparing notes to make sure they will be able to put the NAU into effect according to their time line.

America has to be made into a Socialist country in order to make the merge complete.

    The meeting in Mexico--

-- is the next in the SPP discussions. The name SPP will most likely change soon since Obama has is getting advice that the name is too well known and distrusted by some Americans. It has been linked to the posssibility of an EU like association--referred to as the NAU- North American Union.

Whether the NAU is true or not, certain measures of the SPP can aid in achieving that goal Bush insisted that it was only a group to improve the well being of all three countries, yet the meetings were held in private--no press or open meetings were allowed.

    Go figure.

PS I believe the goal is NAU because the follow on step to that would be a complete global alliance with laws from other countries taking precedent over our Constitution.

PPS I believe Michelle Obama is a member of CFR which is in favor of a global association.

PPPS Are yoiu aware that Bush signed an agreement with Canada for them to send troops to assist American police in the event of national unrest???

Did you know about a year ago, actor David Spade donated the money to Phoenix police dept to protect them from the illegal gangbanger shootouts? It's sad that we can give money to Mexico, but don't have enough to protect our law enforcement. David Spade is a true patriot:

David Spade Donates $100,000 to Phoenix Police Department for New Rifles
    By Ray Stern in News
    Monday, Dec. 22 2008 @ 11:06AM

    Spade doesn't forget his roots.

The former Valley resident cut a $100,000 check today to fund the purchase of new rifles for the Phoenix Police Department.

In a news release, (reprinted below), police say Spade "had been made aware" of a program -- covered in a previous Valley Fever blog post -- to equip officers with high-powered rifles.

Spade, the star of the CBS sitcom, Rules of Engagement, lives in a Malibu mansion but keeps his eye on the happenings in his old 'hood.

Last year, the Scottsdale native gave big checks to his alma mater, Saguaro High School, and to the family of slain Phoenix police officer Nick Erfle. He also gave $10,000 this year to an animal shelter in Lakeside where his mom volunteers.

    Phoenix police news release follows:

The Phoenix Police Department's Police Foundation was the fortunate recipient today of a most generous donation from Hollywood star and former Phoenix area resident David Spade.

Asking there be no fanfare or media attention, Mr. Spade called last week and said he wanted to donate $100,000.00 to the Phoenix Police Department towards the purchase of rifles to help keep our patrol officers and community safe.

Mr. Spade had been made aware that Phoenix Police Chief and Public Safety Manager Jack Harris and the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association President Officer Mark Spencer, along with their respective staffs, had been working towards a program to have 300 rifles deployed for Phoenix patrol officers. This mutual agreement can now move ahead with momentum thanks to the generosity of Mr. Spade.

At 9:30 A.M., Mr. Spade stopped by the Phoenix Police Department's Desert Horizon Precinct and gave a check to Chief Harris made out to the Phoenix Police Foundation, a 501C3 status charitable organization led by long time foundation board president Marc Cavness, a local prominent attorney. The foundation will direct the full amount towards the purchase of the rifles.
