The Senate Conservatives Fund warned Friday that the “deeply flawed” comprehensive immigration bill the Senate is expected to take up next week “must be stopped” and called on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to kill it.

Matt Hoskins, executive director of the political action committee, said the proposal from the “Gang of Eight” senators grants instant amnesty to 11 million illegal immigrants and that it is unfortunate that many Republicans are allowing the bill to come to the Senate floor.

“They either support amnesty or mistakenly believe they can work with Barack Obama and Harry Reid to fix it,” Mr. Hoskins said in an email blast. “Now is the time for conservatives to stand up and oppose this bill.”

The Senate is expected to start taking up the immigration bill next week. The proposal would grant quick legal status and work permits to most illegal immigrants.

But it would withhold a full path to citizenship until the border security benchmarks are met.

Mr. Hoskins urged conservatives to call Mr. McConnell, Kentucky Republican, to tell him “you expect him to stop this bill.”

“He’s the Republican Leader and he — more than anyone else — has the power to defeat it,” he said. “Senator McConnell voted for amnesty in 1986, which is one of the reasons why we have 11 million illegal immigrants today. Instead of recognizing his mistake, he has made positive comments about the new amnesty plan and tried to help Harry Reid bring it to the Senate floor.”
