    S.Amdt. 2630 to H.R. 2847

The Senate voted, 38-to-61, to table an amendment offered by Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) that would prevent the FY2010 Commerce, Justice and Science spending bill from funding sanctuary cities. The vote went along party lines except for three Republicans who voted with the Democrats to table the amendment - Snowe (ME), Murkowski (AK) and Voinovich (OH). One Democrat voted against the motion - Landrieu (LA).

The Vitter Amendment, if adopted, would have prevented federal funds from going to states and municipalities with sanctuary policies in place that protect illegal aliens, criminal aliens, and, potentially, terrorists. Sanctuary policies bar public officials, including police officers, from asking an individual's immigration status and from reporting illegal aliens to federal authorities.

In 1996, Congress passed a law that specifically prohibits state and local governments from enacting sanctuary policies. Despite that, cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston, still have sanctuary policies in place. Maine is the only state with a sanctuary policy. The Vitter Amendment would have been a huge incentive for states and municipalities to rescind their sanctuary policies.

One of my senators voted YES and one voted NO. They are BOTH getting an email from me. I want to thank the senator that voter NO, in favor of keeping Vitter amendment. I think we should reinforce and encourage those who are voting in our favor.

I am so happy so far with Senator Johanns R-NE, our newly-elected, first-time Senator. He has an "A" from NumbersUSA so far. (Technically an A minus, but NumbersUSA doesn't give any higher than A- to new Congress reps.)

Did anybody else notice Juan McCain voted NO, in favor of keeping Vitter amendment?? Guess he thinks he needs to balance out his pandering before the next election. He knew FULL WELL there were enough votes to table it anyway, so he could "safely" vote to keep the amendment. The same dam thing he did when voting AGAINST Sotomayor confirmation. He ONLY votes with our side if he is SURE it won't matter. And only because it is an election year.

Arizonians - PLEASE!! GET McCain OUT of office!! He can move to Mexico and run for office there!!
