Officials: Hastert "In the Mix" of Congressional Bribery Investigation

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert, is under investigation by the FBI, which is seeking to determine his role in an ongoing public corruption probe into members of Congress, ABC News has learned from senior U.S. law enforcement officials.

Federal officials say the information implicating Hastert was developed from convicted lobbyists who are now cooperating with the government.

Part of the investigation involves a letter Hastert wrote three years ago, urging the Secretary of the Interior to block a casino on an Indian reservation that would have competed with other tribes.

The other tribes were represented by convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff who reportedly has provided details of his dealings with Hastert as part of his plea agreement with the government.

The letter was written shortly after a fund-raiser for Hastert at a restaurant owned by Abramoff. Abramoff and his clients contributed more than $26,000 at the time.

The day Abramoff was indicted, Hastert denied any unlawful connection and said he would donate to charity any campaign contribution he had received from Abramoff and his clients.

A spokesman for Speaker Hastert told ABC News, "We are not aware of this. The Speaker has a long history and a well-documented record of opposing Indian Reservation shopping for casino gaming purposes."

This week, Hastert has been outspoken in his criticism of the FBI for its raid on the office of another congressman under investigation, Democrat William Jefferson of Louisiana.

"My opinion is that they took the wrong path, Hastert said of the FBI. "They need to back up, and we need to go from there."

Well, now we know what Karl Rove has been up to the last few days.

The problem is, there probably isn't a Congressman in any state that isn't corrupt to some degree, and Karl Rove knows them all.

At least now we know what the White House strategy is for bringing the House in line with amnesty.

This is old news....lobbyists raise money for all candidates and make contributions....Representatives then write letters and do things for their contributors and constituents.

We have millions of illegal aliens in the country breaking every federal law most of us can think of....yet Bush wants to legalize them....while at the same time focusing on our elected members of the House of Representatives.

This is a rift brewing in our favor....so lets don't judge our friends by what our enemies to do them.

the House to stop this dead in its tracks. The question is, will he?

while i think it's better to put things in your own words a couple of

lines to get accross.

1- for those who vote gop, point out that if you wanted a democratic

bill you would not have voted for the gop

2- point out that we've been promised border security for 20 years

3- point out that they have never enforced the laws we hive, so why

would they start now?

Never looked at it that way. Would be a way to force a hand on the issue. So much to learn. It just seems there isn't a day when the newspaper doesn't have an article about yet another corrupt politician in Il and what they've done.

That's right.

That's why, to Rove/Bush, he has to be made to either toe the party line or be thrown overboard.

That's what I think this is all about. Just a little pressure from the traitors in the White House.
