7000 Russian Muslims Granted U.S. Citizenship

    http://www.forumgarden.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167

I'm new here, so I don't know how many of you are aware of this news article from last year. Just in case you're not, I figure it's something the members here would be interested in.

US Gives Citizenship To 7000 Russian Muslims

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KRASNODAR (IslamOnline.net) - The United States has agreed to grant citizenship to 7,000 Ahiska Muslims who will be settled in Pennsylvania, reported a Russian newspaper on Friday, July 23.

The first 11-strong batch of the Ahiska Muslims, living in the Russian province of Krasnodar, left for Geneva on Thursday, July 22, before flying to Philadelphia, reported Novie Izvestia. It added that the Muslims would be housed near the grand mosque in Philadelphia. ...

An official in Krasnodar administration had told Interfax on Tuesday, July 20, that of the 11,999 Ahiska Muslims living in the region, 4,943 have received Russian citizenship and 744 have embarked on Russian naturalization procedures. He added that more than 5,000 others have expressed a desire to emigrate to the United States.

Earlier, Chingiz Neiman-zade, chairman of Vatan, a Meskheti Turks association based in Georgia, said the United States had offered to accept the Ahiska Muslims living in Krasnodar as immigrants. "On February 16, the International Migration Organization began an information program in Krasnodar to explain the terms for the resettlement of the Ahiska Muslims in the U.S., he told Chicago Tribune on Thursday, July 22.

"The immigrants will be provided with housing and furniture, they will be helped to learn the English language and to complete formalities needed for residence in the US, which is especially important, and have been promised life-long welfare allowances for pensioners and the disabled."

This article probably upset me more than most. I'm a 50-year-old American who's been working and paying taxes all his life. Three years ago, I was crippled in a motorcycle accident and rendered unable to work. I've been fighting the Social Security Administration, tooth and nail, for 3 full years now, trying to get help in the form of disability benefits and medicare. I haven't gotten them yet. I'm tens of thousands of dollars in debt from being screwed by my ex-insurance providers and living off my credit cards. If the SS doesn't come through soon, I'm finished.

Try to imagine what it was like for me to read this article and find out that the same government that refuses to provide aid to one of its own disabled citizens is importing 7000 presumably-healthy Muslims from Russia and awarding them housing, welfare, social security pensions and disability...for what? Because they're being mistreated in Russia? Are they being screened for having ties with Al Quaida or any other muslim terrorist group? Or would that be a violation of their privacy?

I can't even think about this for too long. It makes me feel like my head is gonna explode.

Bless your heart, TxCracker, and welcome to ALIPAC. You will find all of us to be very supportive of people who have gone through what you are describing you have had to deal with.

No--I certainly had not heard about the 7000 Russian Muslims being GIVEN US citizenship. That is just UNBELIEVABLE.

I have heard so many stories like yours about disability. In fact, several years ago, a really close friend of mine went through the same thing and I found out, FIRST HAND, how screwed up this system is. It took her, or US, about three years to finally win her case so take hope. Surely, it will happen for you soon. And, you are SO RIGHT in your outrage about all of the money that this country is just GIVING away to foreigners when AMERICANS who have SUPPORTED this country are being screwed to the wall.

If there's anything we can do, let us know. We are good at yelling at our representatives. In fact, have you CONTACTED your representative? That was one thing I did when I was helping my friend. Another thing I did was get her to Vocational Rehabilitation where she was able to get financial help with medical tests to PROVE her condition. It appears you live in Texas so I don't know what the equivalent would be there but just a couple of ideas to pursue if you haven't already done so.

    Impeach Bush.

    The man is insane.

AND what in the hell is the International Organization of Immigration anyway?

I think we need to shut them down or at least stop taking their phone calls, opening their mail or sending money....right away.

Let's not stop with BUSH. I Want EVERYONE who has a DESK in the White House IMPEACHED.

International MIGRATION Organization--I have never HEARD of such. It must be a group that goes all over the WORLD and teaches people how to MIGRATE to the US. JUST WHAT WE'VE ALWAYS NEEDED!

This practice is not new. It has been going on for many years. Why we continue to allow it is because most people don't realize it is happening. Those who do, need to be telling those who don't and then EVERYONE should be writing letters to public officials demanding that it stop.

After witnessing what has gone on in France, we need more Muslims like we need a hole in our heads. We are heading for a civil war aided and abetted by the Bush administration. Judy is right.

Seems to me that things similar, although not of the same magnitude, went on in cities like Detroit and Philadelphia right here in the US even before 9-11. We just continue to ignore it and our illustrious government keeps playing the ostrich game and telling us what peace-loving people Moslems are.

Bootsie, thank you for your kind words and offer of support.

Yes. I did contact my congressman and senators, nearly two years ago. At the time, the congressman for my district was Chris Bell, and his office was quite sympathetic and helpful to my dilemma. For as long as they could be anyhow. For some reason Bell got pushed out of the 22nd Congressional District and was replaced by Tom Delay, who is not very sympathetic to anybody but himself. You're probably already aware of the trouble he's in now, so if he's still my congressman, I doubt it'll be for long.

I also got some support from Senator John Cornyn. I thought Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson would reply for sure, but I never got a letter from her office. That surprised me, because on her website she claims to be very helpful to citizens who are being screwed by government agencies, and even provides an online form to fill out to speed up the process of her assistance.

But, you are right in saying it'll happen for me soon. After all this time, things are finally coming to fruition. A judge finally granted me a favorable decision this year, but it's been taking a bit of time for my paperwork to get processed. Every little task the Administration needs to perform takes at least "3 to 6 months". Then it usually takes longer, and there'll be another task and another "3 to 6 months". After 6 months, you call them and they'll say, "didn't we tell you? It's 6 to 9 months!"

It can be really frustrating to go through that while you're afraid you could go bankrupt at any time. I make the minimum payments to my debtors with the same money I borrowed from them. I never would have thought a person could get away with that for this long! I've been pretty much of a hermit for quite some time. It costs about 100 bucks to fill up my 3/4 ton pickup these days, which burns 12 to 13 miles per gallon. I had to cancel my homeowner's insurance long ago. When everybody else was leaving town in anticipation of hurricane Rita, I stayed. I figured, "If this house blows away, I'm going with it!"

BTW, Bootsie, you said you're assuming I live in Texas. You're right, but that lead me to believe you haven't seen my posts in the Teddy Roosevelt thread, in the General Forum. Check it out when you get a chance, as I made a comment or two to you personally about your fight in North Carolina.

I will check out the posts you referred to. I had not seen them!

Oh, how well I remember those 3-6 months claims and then they would change to 6-9 months in midstream. I had forgotten all about how many times we would slam up against that particular brick wall. That is the worse example of bureaucratic WASTE I've ever seen in my life. The red tape is unbelievable and, yet, you see these people on TV who look FINE saying they are on disability for MENTAL problems. Well, believe me, if you have to go through that disability fight, you ARE going to be a mental case!

I sure feel sorry for you if you have that self-serving, arrogant, cocky little PIPSQUEAK, DeLay, to represent you. I HOPE you will be rid of THAT ONE SOON.

Best of luck. I'll check the other thread.
