SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. -- The family of an illegal immigrant fatally shot by a U.S. Border Patrol agent in 2007 has reached a $850,000 settlement in a civil case against the federal government and the agent.

Court records filed Friday in federal court in Tucson say a settlement agreement was reached by the family of Francisco Javier Dominguez Rivera and the other parties.

Agent Nicholas Corbett was charged with shooting Rivera in the desert between Bisbee and Douglas on Jan. 12, 2007.

Corbett was twice tried for murder with both trials ending in a hung jury.

Corbett's attorney told the Sierra Vista Herald Wednesday that there was no admission of liability by his client as part of the settlement

I thought you could not sue the Fed Govt?

Why is it illegals can do it but we can't sue for them not protecting the border?

The Department of Justice just threw your money away and agreed to pay an illegal alien.

The Fed Gov should have told the family of the illegal to shove it. He was killed during the commission of a crime. NO SETTLEMENT SHOULD BE PAID.

The LEgal people of the USA need to sue the mexican government along witht he family for an equl sum of money for violations to US law, aiding and encouraging illegal activity, corruption and possable drug violations. Toss in encouraging trespassing and illegal entry into the USA. Legal fees and mental anguis to the BP officer...perhaps that should be raised to 2million dollars.

I know this has come up countless times - but how does one go about doing this (sueing them?)

I want to know what court this was in, what judge agreed to this settlement and who was party of the suit. Notice how it was reported "and the other parties. "
