The Orange County DREAM Team and Aclamo Saddleback are planning a forum on the California Dream Act Thursday, Aug. 18.

The forum, which will include ACLU immigrant rights lawyer Lucero Chavez and students, takes place from 7-9 p.m. at HS 145 (Health Sciences and Human Services) at Saddleback College, 28000 Marguerite Parkway, Mission Viejo. Parking is available in Lots 5 and 9.

The forum is intended to provide information on how to help support AB131, one of two pieces of legislation that make up the California Dream Act.

The first part, AB130, has been signed into law, making undocumented students who qualify eligible for private scholarships. The second part, AB 131, would allow undocumented students who qualify to seek publicly funded scholarships.

Aclamo and the Orange County DREAM Team support and advocate for undocumented students.

Karen Huerta, a member of Aclamo, was among five college students who appeared before the Latino advocacy group Los Amigos of Orange County Wednesday, urging concerned community members to call state Sen. Christine Kehoe, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, to move the bill from the suspense file to the Senate. Kehoe's office: 916-651-4039.
