Lt. Carolyn Kendrick with the San Diego Police Department Sex Crimes Unit said on July 11, 2007, a 43-year-old woman exited the 7-11 Store located at 2295 Palm Avenue. Martin Delatorre then allegedly followed her home to her apartment complex and confronted her at her front door.

"He attempted to sexually assault her and she fought him off," said Lt. Kendrick. "During the physical assault, she received several bruises in the head and face and her two front teeth were knocked out."

San Diego Police Sex Crimes detectives recovered a video surveillance tape from the 7-11 Store with Delatorre's image. The image was released to the public through the media, prompting a call to positively identify him. A warrant of arrest was issued for Delatorre and it was learned that he fled to Mexico.

On September 25, 2008, U.S. Immigration officers detained Delatorre as he attempted to enter San Diego via the United States Port of Entry in San Ysidro. The arrest warrant was verified and the SDPD Sex Crimes Unit was notified. Detectives arrested him without incident and he was booked for sexual assault charges, assault charges resulting in great bodily injury and parole violations. His arraignment was set for September 26, 2008.
